A doula or birth attendant is someone who is experienced and knowledgeable about the birth process and provides support to a birthing mother and her family before, during, and after the birth. It comes from a Greek word meaning 'a woman who serves'.
Having a baby is one of the most natural and joyous experiences of life, but it can be daunting. A doula provides emotional and physical support to couples or single women before, during and after labour.
Support is available in both hospital and homebirth settings.
